"WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE AMERICAN ACCENT OF YOUR LANGUAGE?"
--- CROATIA ---
"Funny. Croatian is a problematic language for foreigners, especially for you, more so than Italian... It's hard for you to break your tongue... I can definitely tell they are foreigners. I don't know anyone living here for some time who didn't have difficulties... I think it's cute--why not?!"
--- CANADA (TORONTO) ---
"Now, Canadians are exposed to a lot of American media, and so we don't tend to really think of Americans in general as having accents (excepting, of course, the regional dialects that are so easily parodied). But when I actually spend time talking with Americans, it seems that the American accent is simply a larger version of the Canadian accent. Everything's bigger, wider, longer. It's not simply 'out,' it's 'aout.'"
--- BRITAIN (LONDON/BIRMINGHAM) ---
"Southern belles sound all cute 'n stuff. The general thing that ties together all Amerian accents that I hear is that there is a varying amount of drawling on the vowels. It's not so bad, except in some of the more..... extreme accents. I'm not sure on the exact location, but I'm sure you can work out what I mean. Oh. And Wisconsin accents amuse me greatly. 'Hiiiii. And welcome to Wiscaaaaaaansin.' But amusingly so, rather than annoying."
--- FINLAND ---
"I have heard people trying to repeat some words or sentences after me in Finnish here...it sounds mainly cute =D. Not ugly or stupid by any means!! However, it seems to be difficult for Americans to speak Finnish, at least at first when they're not familiar with the language - especially our r-sound seems to be almost impossible for you guys in most of the cases for it differs so much from the English r-sound. And, because there are a lot of r-sounds in Finnish, that makes "American Finnish" pretty unclear at least for those native Finnish speakers who are not familiar with accents."
--- JAPAN ---
"when I hear American speak Japanese, i think it's so cute!! It's like a little child is speaking Japanese hard ;) So I feel like to listen to their Japanese hard. Amrican accent seems like "wave" and it has original intonation, it means american puts intonation on differnet part of the words. Do you know what I mean??"
--- KOREA ---
"yes I have seen many English natives speaking Korean and I think it's CUTE!! I bet most people think it's cute. Like, for me, I used to think Korean Americans who had English accents in their Korean were cute that I liked dating them! Just because of their cute accents! ah, I'm reading a book about the Japanese culture thesedays, and I read that Japanese people would think that someone was trying to look smart if that someone spoke with english accent. And It's about the same in Korea too. But I guess that really depends on the speaker's attitude. If the speaker looks s/he's trying to show off, people will talk behind his/her back. If the speaker seems to be trying to pronounce it correctly, they'll think he/she is cute."
--- SWEDEN ---
"hmmm... well.. it sounds strange of course... not ugly, but not cute.... hard to say.."
--- CHINA ---
"well people with accents are rather.... 'looked down' by hong kong people because people from mainland china who tries to speak cantonese have an accent so i guess whenever someone has an accent while speaking cantonese hong kong people immediately think they're from mainland china. foreigners in general are viewed as.... well, maybe not 'inferior', but.... hm.... highly prejudiced, I guess. but foreigners who manage to speak chinese are viewed like geniuses, I guess o_O. well I guess HK is also very americanized, and they think a chinese person who has an american accent is cool ..............ONCE they find out it's american, NOT mainland chinese. i guess we're a bunch of weirdos. :P"
--- FRANCE ---
"Americans trying to speak french is absolutely hilarious. i don't know, french + american accent somewhat sounds like if someone's trying to sound.... more 'upper class. It makes me think of some old british person in a suit from the 1600-1800's, i guess."
--- RUSSIA ---
"I don't know, it always makes me smile for some reason. Though, I don't know why."
--- AUSTRALIA ---
"people imitate the american accent when they want to sound educated, pompous, pretentious, etc."
